Chapter 17

Lady Kristensen’s Ring

Hannah arrived back at the estate and Sven let her into the bunker. She gave him a hug that lasted long enough for Sven to feel uncomfortable.

“What wrong?”

Hannah let go of Sven. “Exactly. What could possibly be wrong?” She opened the elevator and went inside. Sven hesitated, but then followed her. The silence in the elevator was unnerving.

“It would be better to talk about it.”

“No—it wouldn’t.”

The door opened and he motioned for her to go first. Sven noticed that she looked to be walking on autopilot, and knew full well what the problem was, but decided not to pursue it. Sven followed her to the command center and they sat down at the table.

“Are you hungry?”

She shook her head and absently swiped at her built-in tablet at her station. “Yes I do.” She said, not really knowing her answer didn’t fit the question. “Have you got anything?” She stopped swiping and stared at him.

“Jacob’s at Victor’s Jersey house and Victor’s basking in all his APEX glory.”

“So no change,” she said and went back to swiping screens.

“There’s a change on my end.” She looked back up and waited. “Sebastian had a safe deposit box, and per his instructions in these circumstances, I have examined the contents. What’s of interest for me was that it contained Lady Kristensen’s ring. Somehow Sebastian foretold the importance of her ring.”

Hannah looked blankly at Sven, and he continued.

“I don’t know how much you know, but her ring was programmed by Victor to maintain an open gateway.” Sven stopped, and Hannah just blankly stared. “Shit,” he said to himself, “She’s having a breakdown.”

“Hannah, would you like to rest?”

Hannah looked away and said, “No, please continue.”

Sven cleared his throat, “Yes, well, Victor programmed the ring with hidden Blood Magic coding that was unknown to me. It was not activated until some of Lady Kristensen’s blood touched the ring—booby-trapped as it were. When it did, a gateway in the ring was permanently opened. Do you understand?”

She shook her head, and looked back at him with empty eyes.

“What I am saying is that Lady Kristensen had ultimate power for the brief seconds she had on the ring, but she knew instantly that something was sharing her consciousness. She warned us not to touch the ring-stone, and Sebastian kept it in a safe deposit box ever since.”

Sven thought to himself, “Come on, Hannah, wake up, ask me a question. Ask me what this has to do with Victor and Jacob.” Victor decided to do an Elven push while he had locked eyes with Hannah. He pushed anger with all his ability—Get mad!

Hannah frowned, “What the hell has any of that got to do with those bastards?”

“That’s better,” he said with a smile. “Now that I know that Victor is using Blood Magic, I have been searching for that type of coding, and only ring programming I found to have it was Lady Kristensen’s ring. The Blood Magic has a perpetual gateway. What is interesting is that the wearer
